What Is It?
Chronic inflammatory airway disease causing recurrent episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and cough, often triggered by allergens, exercise, or infections.
How Is It Diagnosed?
Spirometry showing obstructive pattern with bronchodilator reversibility. Peak flow monitoring. Allergy testing if indicated.
How Is It Treated?
Short-acting bronchodilators (albuterol) for rescue. Inhaled corticosteroids for persistent asthma. LABAs, leukotriene modifiers, or biologics for severe disease.
Tests and Imaging Typically Needed
Spirometry, peak flow diary, CBC with eosinophils, allergy panel, chest X-ray.
